Statement of the Israeli Communist Forum - October 1, 2000
Barak Government Drowns The Peace Process With Streams of Blood
The Israeli Communist Forum demands from the Israeli government to immediately stop the bloodbath it perpetrates already for several successive days in the occupied Palestinian territories, the result of which is, so far, that dozens of Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded, among them a 12 year old boy, who was cold-bloodedly murdered by bullets shot by Israeli occupation forces.
The fire in Jerusalem and elsewhere throughout the territories was ignited by the provocative visit, the chair of the Likud Party, Ariel Sharon, made on the Temple Mount (Haram A-Sharif). Already on that same day, a heavy price of blood was paid, especially in Jerusalem. With the brutal sanguinary police attack, the Barak government assisted Ariel Sharon to achieve his goal, to fan a renewed escalation of bloodshed in order to hit hard any chance of progress in the peace process.
We demand from the Israeli government to immediately stop the killings and murders, which are the most severe ones in the occupied territories since years. We express our deepest sympathy with the heroic stand of Palestinian people in face of the murderous onslaught of the Israeli occupation authorities. By this stand, the Palestinian people have again proved their firmness in defending their just national rights in eastern Jerusalem, as well as throughout the occupied territories, on the soil of which the Palestinian State has to be established. We condemn also the reaction of the USA administration, which censored in an equal way the aggressor and his victims, and moreover did not use its influence upon the Israeli government in order to put an end to the bloodbath.
The sole way to end the bloody vicious circle is, first of all, to stop the murderous onslaught upon the Palestinian people, and to go for a truly just peace, based upon the full withdrawal of Israel from the occupied Palestinian territories, including from eastern Jerusalem, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, including eastern Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, alongside Israel in its pre-1967 borders.
